Inclusion BC highlighted that “Raising awareness of the many challenges faced by Indigenous people with disabilities is an important step towards changing attitudes, opening doors and creating a more inclusive society,” said Neil Belanger, Executive Director of BC Aboriginal Network on Disability Society (BCANDS).
BCANDS is unique as the only stand-alone organization in Canada serving Indigenous people with disabilities. The not-for-profit charity has been providing Indigenous disability and health services and programs throughout the province for 26 years.
BCANDS and the Canadian Institute for Inclusion and Citizenship are co-hosting a special event, the Indigenous Disability Awareness Month Celebration on Friday, November 22nd at UBC Okanagan. The event is presented in partnership with Okanagan Nation Alliance, UBCO Aboriginal Programs and Services, and UBCO Disability Resource Centre. It is a great way to recognize the valuable contributions that Indigenous persons living with disabilities bring to our communities.
