Family Support Services

Our Programs for children serve families who have a child (under 19 years of age) with a disability. Our goal is to provide families and children with the support they need to grow, learn and be resilient. In addition to our program for children, we also have adult respite services to support families.

Children’s Respite

The Children’s Respite Program at CVS is designed to support families who have a child with a disability. Respite is a family-to-family program where the child typically goes into the home of the caregiver to provide the family with a break from continuous care of their child. Respite visits generally happen over a weekend or on an overnight basis. However, a more flexible schedule can be designed to meet the needs of the family. Families interested in receiving respite should speak to their social worker for service inquiry. Referrals to this program are through Children & Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) social workers.

Shared Living

Shared Living is a unique and rewarding way to support someone in your community by welcoming them into your home and daily life. It is about building a genuine, respectful relationship where a person receiving support can live in a safe, stable, and inclusive environment while maintaining their independence. Shared Living providers offer a combination of accommodation, guidance, and connection, creating a sense of belonging that goes far beyond traditional care. With the right match and ongoing support, Shared Living can be a meaningful experience for both the individual and the provider.

Adult Respite

The Adult Respite Program at Community Ventures Society provides parents and other family members with a break from the demands of providing continuous care to a family member (19 years of age and older) who has a developmental disability.
